Truth About Abs by Mike Geary is a holistic diet and fitness book showing how to get ripped lower abdomen and the so coveted six pack abs. Mike really goes in depth in each of his chapters backing up his claims with scientific proof and study and always aims at clearing up myths circulating in the common crowd. One of his basic tenets of his book is that anyone can achieve those ripped six pack abs by following a set of instructions that strengthen your abdoment and dietary guidelines that decrease your body fat below the level that your abs show nicely. Believe it or not, if you have been doing some kind of abdominal exercises you do have six packs already, just that stomach fat covers it up.
Abdominal Development for those Six Packs
Chapters 3-10 cover the subject of the theory and the types of exercises that get you the abs of your dreams. Mike starts out with the types of exercises that you should be doing and why and he leaves no stones unturned with detailed biological descriptions! I like the fact that he emphasises the importance of free weights versus body building machines, as free weights align with your own musculature and unique body shape that fitness machines hardly can do. I am all for free weights, and even more for exercises that use your own body as the weight.
I incorporated two exercises in my abdominal workout, namely the hanging and lying leg raises. For the hanging leg raise you just grab on to a bar so that you are hanging and your leg is not touching the ground. From here you lift your legs up as high as possible doing 10-20 reps for 3 times. This is my favorite exercise and I am sure you will find your favorite as well inside the book.

The second part of the book from Chapter 10-12 goes into the importance of diet in achieving your goal. I really like how Mike gives you an exact diet you can follow, or even mix for yourself. Most diet experts just tell you that you should consume x amount of calories per your meal, and good luck for you in figuring out how much to eat. Well with Mike's diet plans you don't need to worry. For example, here is a breakfast meal recommendation from his 30 day diet plan: "egg sandwich (1 egg, one sliced medium sized chicken sausage link, one slice cheese, on whole wheat english muffin or whole grain bread)". Now that is sufficient detail to get you started and you wont end up having to calculate all those calories numbers per meal. To be honest, I never did as I was too lazy, but now I don't even have to anymore.
