BOY, was I wrong!!!
Hi…I'm Susan Whitehead and I am now a reformed "smart" shopper and have turned into a Serious Couponing momma!
Our family of SEVEN (two adults and five kids) has been able to eat better, on a smaller budget, without sacrificing food quality.
We're also not eating only rice and beans or peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for meals. Now, there's nothing wrong with PB&J or rice and beans…it's just that it gets old after a while and not all of my kids like peanut butter! (Can you IMAGINE???)
I'd heard about how some people were saving 30-60% or more on their groceries and I HAD to find out why.
Times being as they are, more and more of my friends were talking about these AMAZING shopping trips they were having at some of the nicer grocery stores and only spending a fraction of what the retail shelf prices were on a cart full of food.
And it was GOOD food like yogurt, cereal, salad dressings and healthy bread for sandwiches, not just junk food like cheap tv dinners and cake mixes.
I had to investigate and as I dug deep, I discovered that by using coupons and watching the sales, I could rake in some SERIOUS savings using coupons.
Once I started posting my success stories on my Mrs. Homeschool Facebook page, people started asking me HOW I was able to save so much money on food. I even posted photos like the one here to show how much I could get for very little money. I actually got a credit for the peanut butter and pasta shown in the photo.
This photo shows a big bunch of laundry detergent that I was able to get for $1 a bottle! With the amount of laundry I do, about a load a day, that was a major savings for us and it's not cheap detergent. It averages about $5 per bottle!
Even my children have gotten into it. Recently I went shopping with my mother to the same grocery store we go to when we coupon at home. My 10 yr old was eagerly watching the screen as the cashier announced the total bill. My mom isn't a serious couponer, yet, so when her total savings read $1.74, my daughter told her grandma that she needed to learn how to coupon like Mommy.
Learning how to coupon has even spread to my sister. She came over to our house one night and I walked her through my process and off to shop we went. She ended up saving about 50% on her first run to a local pharmacy and was hooked.
Next week, we went to the grocery store and, again, she saved about 50%. She's happy, her husband is happy, and her pantry is getting stockpiled with the ultra healthy food she likes. And when I first mentioned serious couponing to her, she told me that she never found coupons for the stuff she buys. Guess big sister DOES know best sometimes! He he he!
