Free Poker Tournaments (and How to Win Them) If you are looking to play free poker, there are plenty of online poker sites offering free poker tournaments. However, finding a freeroll is a lot easier than winning them. In this article, are many tips and techniques to help you increase your chances of winning a free poker tournament. The best freerolls I have found in the last few months are on two of the internets most popular online poker sites, Full Tilt poker and Poker Stars. Full Tilt offers several $100 free poker tournaments throughout the day that pay cash to the winners. These tournaments allow a maximum of 2700 players and pay the top 27. First place is $15, while 27th receives $2. Not a great amount, however it could be the start of your bankroll. Poker Stars offers plenty of free poker tournaments as well. The best free tournament pokerstars offers is the Daily Eighty Grand (DEG) freeroll satellite at 13:35 EST. Registration is limited to 10,000 entrants and begins at 13:05 EST. If you want to play in this one, you must register quickly, as it fills up within one minute after registration opens. Finishing in the top 5 spots of the DEG, will give you a $55 ticket to the Daily Eighty Grand, with a prize pool in excess of $80,000. Finishing 6th to 27th will put $5.50 in your account. If you choose not to play in the DEG, you can unregister from the event and have $55 in tournament dollars in your account to play any tournament on Poker Stars. In addition, Pokerstars offers several satellite freerolls throughout the day for a chance in their weekly $2000 freeroll. The top 99 winners in their daily freerolls will be entered into the weekly $2,000 Freeroll held on Saturday or Sunday. The $2K freerolls offer cash prizes to the top 20% ranging from less than a dollar for last place, up to $200 for 1st. The basic strategy you need to employ in a free poker tournament is to stay tight in the early stages. Take no chances as you will soon find people are willing to risk all their chips on a draw, on any Ace rag or face card, just to hurry up and get a chip lead. However, more than half the field will be gone by the first hour, so If you can hang on for a quality hand, you will find it very easy to double and sometimes triple up. Do not try to 'create' your own luck! Let the chasers and donkeys knock themselves out and wait for a premium hand to take down a big pot. Once the field is narrowed after the first hour, you will find it easier to make a move as less people will call. Since they have invested an hour in the tournament, the play begins to become more like 'real poker', especially since the majority of the worst players are gone. Remember, you can not win the tournament in the first hour, no matter how many chips you accumulate. The key to the game is patience and making the right move at the appropriate time. If you are new to the Poker game arena, I recommend this eBook to help you understand the strategies used by professional poker players. Reading this book can help you improve your game and let you see that poker is not a game of luck as much as it is a game of skill. The book is 101 Winning Moves in Tournament Poker and the cost is a mere $9.95. A great bargain for gaining the knowledge and experience of professionals who spend years learning the game!Sign up for poker stars today and try your hand at a free poker tournament! Good Luck and hope to see you at the final table.Main Menu

Mostly rubbish
I tried implementing this system on poker stars in a about 5 tourneys 5 s&g's and 5 heads up games. The premise of the poker code is that everyone will win an equal amount of hands and if your winning percentage is lower than average it will greatly increase your chance of winning hands while if your winning percentage is below average you will be more likely to lose big hands. I cashed in one tourney, getting knocked out with kk to a player with a much higher winning percentage playing to lower unsuited unconnected cards. I figured the easiest way to test this system would be heads up were it is very easy to skew the winning percentage by folding all your hands at the beginning of the game. I lost 3 of the 5 heads up matches while letting my opponent win 70% percent of the hands. One time getting busted by a lower pair with a 19% chance of winning in real poker. If you want to try this scam I suggest you try to find a free copy on the Internet as it will cause you to lose money in addition to the cost of the book. I've gone back to my old system of playing a lot of hands when the blinds are low and the fish are still in the game building a stack then tightening up later in the tourney after the riff raff has been eliminated and seeing the flop has become more expensive. He also suggests you don't try to steal blinds, which I find crucial in late tournament play.

Doesn't work
Been trying to test this system for a couple of days and I can't say that it's a guaranteed way to get into the money. Too many times, have I gotten beat with an extremely low NWP on PREMIUM HANDS such as AA, while my opponents with NWP percentage being over 30% cracked them with crap such as 3-5 off. On the other hand, sometimes, just sometimes the NWP does play a factor. So, after analyzing this I can tell you the following:
Do keep an eye on your NWP, because it does play a factor in SOME HANDS.
However, it is NOT AS CRUCIAL as Westin would make you believe.
Do trust your gut feeling and even if your NWP is extremely low with a premium hand, but your gut tells your otherwise - let it go.
Do raise your premium hands preflop.
Do play strong hands in position.
Do bluff when the time is right.
Do try to steal the pots.
Don't be a donkey :)
Now, a for a few examples.
Down to 4 on Sit&Go. I am holding AK suited, limping in (as Westing suggested) against 78 off. Hit a king on a flop, check it and reraise my opponent all in after he bets. At that time my NWP is at 4%, while he has just won 3 hand in a row and his NWP is much. much higher. Result - he hits a runner, runner for a set and I lose. Premium hand with low NWP did not hold up.
Heads up in another S&N. I have A10 off and my opponent who's been winning hand after hand goes all in. I call, he shows 53 off. Hits a str8 on the flop. Westin's theory is busted again.
I am 50% NWP. Hitting hand after hand. Get a pair of Qs. Short stack reraises 3X BB and I call. Flop comes 2,7,10 rainbow. He checks and I put him all in. He calls. Shows a pair of Ks. I am losing, right? Wrong. Third queen hits on the river.
Another situation. I am sitting on a very high NWP again. With a pair of 4s. Head up on the flop and it comes as 2, 3, 5. Perfect for me as I am not putting my opponent on a hand, have a second high pair on the board and an open ender. Put him ALL-IN, he calls with a pair of Ks again. Needless to say that I hit my str8 on the river and eliminate the guy who's NWP was much lower then mine.
Now, there have been some times where Westin's theory did work. Sometimes I'd hold premium hands, limp in and they wouldn't hit. Sometimes I'd be short stacked, call a big raise with mid suited connectors, or suited low ace and hit my str8 or flush. And yes, my NWP was extremely low at that time. However, it could be because I was folding every hand for about 45 minutes in a row and obviously was due for a winning one. Plus, I went with my gut feeling and it worked. However, it doesn't mean that Westin's theory works even 50% of the time and if you try to implement it you will see yourself on the losing end. I did, lost almost $400 in two days on Full Tilt. Went back to playing poker as it should be played and climbing back up the ladder.
So, in conclusion - do not waste your money on this book. It's an interesting theory, but it doesn't work as well as the author and online book sellers (with their fake customer testimonials) will make you believe. I am glad, I didn't (found a free copy on the web).
P.S. Always go with your gut feeling.
