Glass etching is the process of abrading or eating areas of shapes or patterns which creates a roughened frosted glass design. The etched areas stand out with its frosted elegant and unique look. The design is elegant because the details that make up the image are nothing but the glass itself. It is one of the most unique glass art crafts that can be done through multiple ways. The example shown is with the cream method, but the whole stencil creating process is relatively similar to etching with any other method.
To acquire the etched glass piece, you will need to make stencils that will resist areas that you don't want etched and expose the areas that you do want etched to reveal the frosted image. Now lets look deeper here to examine the different forms of etching into glass.
Glass Etching Cream

For a more proper and clear understanding, the cream used for most craft projects is a diluted form of the acid etching process. Glass Engraving
Other ways to personalize glass is better known as engraving. This can be done by using a copper wheel or a electric engraver utensil to custom design your glass objects. It produces a rather different etched look in comparison to the other methods. The effects are usually more sketchy looking, like that of a pencil drawing. It looks like this because the glass engraver utensil etches the glass from a vibrating tip powered by electricity. Engraving glass is usually done through the use of following or tracing a sketching pattern placed behind the glass. Since most glass is transparent (unless you have very dark colored glass), you can see the pattern through the glass.
