My wife Amy and I are absolutely passionate about the subject of cake decorating. We are so passionate in fact, that we actually put together a book about it. There are literally thousands of Cake Decorating books floating around out there, but this one is very special. Why? Aside from taking two whole years to research, there is two main things that makes this book stand out from the rest - Love and an extreme passion for Cake Decorating.
You see, many years ago when Amy and I got married, money was a big issue. We were faced with the reality that if we really wanted the big beautiful wedding that we were looking forward to, we were going to have to do most of the work ourselves. And of course, this included providing our own wedding cake. Hiring a professional Cake Decorator was not an option.
Of all of the new things we learned during that whole process the one thing we enjoyed the most was learning to decorate a cake. Sure, we could have ordered a cake from a grocery store bakery, but what fun would that have been? Also, in trying to work with a very limited budget we decided to make our own cake. We borrowed Cake Decorating books from the library, we flipped through Wedding magazines at the bookstore, and we talked to friends and family.With the Wedding only being a few months away, it was time to get serious. We had some great ideas of what we wanted our cake to look like, but had no real clue how we were going to make our cake look like the beauties we had found in the pictures in all of those books and magazines.So we gathered up our books and pictures, borrowed some cake decorating tools, and even snooped around a few bakeries. Amy and I got to work.
Then something magical happened. As we baked cakes and tried our hand at the different decorating techniques that we were learning and practicing, we discovered that - WE WERE HAVING A BLAST! What a great way to spend time together!
I'd be too embarrassed to show you the pictures of some of the first few cakes that we made but you know what? With desire and practice you can become really good at anything you set your mind and heart...
