    I Was Like You

    My name is Michael, and I’m a certified fitness trainer. My secret is that I was once like you: between work and living my life, I let myself go. Not all at once, but a little bit at a time. I worked at a job with little physical labor and when I came home I sat on the couch and watched TV. Dinner often came in a box—I bought exactly what the TV commercials told me to.

    In addition, I had been rail-thin for all of my teens and early twenties, so what hadn’t bloated was weak and skinny. The kicker for me was a trip to California—I developed the photos afterward and saw myself standing at the entrance of Disneyland looking like I’d swallowed a beach ball. I had to do something.

    For the next several years, I bounced around different exercise programs. I ran three miles a day. Hated every minute of it, and it did little to reduce my waistline. I joined a gym and started doing random exercises, followed by a half-hour on the stair climber. Didn’t do much. Ate nothing but chicken breasts. Bought every fitness magazine on the shelf…you know, the ones with a new “killer” ab workout every month? The only thing they “killed” was my lower back!

    And then there was the diet advice. Cut fats! No, cut carbs! No, starve yourself! Atkins, Zone, the “Four Food Groups,” the “Food Pyramid”…none of it was helping.

    As I researched fitness and nutrition, I came to a realization. I knew what to do! Simple, efficient workouts that left me plenty of time to live. A diet plan with one rule—ONE! Small changes that made a huge difference.

    Not only could I see my abs again, my new muscle tone was giving me that “classic” shape. I was stronger. I slept better. My friends all noticed.
