So I stayed home … a LOT.
In 2005, I skipped work over 47 days.
Plus, I used up all my vacation time, just to stay home, apply my creams in privacy, and sit on that damn Hemorrhoid seat, watching game shows all day – ugh.
The Day I Will Never Forget...
As bad as everything else was, nothing comes close to the day that I experienced the most painful and shameful moment a father could ever have.
My 5-year-old son Mikey was gearing up for his first game of Little League T-Ball.
I’d been practicing with him for years … in the backyard, in the playroom, during the games on TV … all the time. He loved baseball, and my wife and I were so excited when he was finally old enough to join the T-Ball League.
The whole family had been waiting for this day: Mikey’s First Real Game.
It was a Saturday in April – and I had just missed the past 2 days at work because the pain of my Hemorrhoids was the worst it had ever been.
My doctor told me the swelling had gotten so bad, I now had EXTERNAL hemorrhoids (gross, I know.). I could barely walk, it was so painful.
On the morning of the game, I did everything I could … applied creams, took my meds, took aspirin, sat on my dumb Hemorrhoid cushion … but nothing worked.
Absolutely Nothing!
At 10 a.m., an hour before the game, I sat down with Mikey and broke the news: “I’m sorry,” I told him. “But I can’t go to your T-Ball game today.”
The look on my kid’s face when I told him I couldn’t go to his first game …
He was crushed – absolutely heart-broken – and so was I.
The worst part is – I couldn’t even fully explain to him why.
My wife helped by telling Mikey I was “sick” – but even SHE couldn’t understand the pain I was going through.

This was literally the worst moment of my life ... I was in pure hell.
