Cats have nine lives or so they say. Cats have been feared, loved, honoured and kept as pets from a long time ago. Even in the beginning of the Egyptian civilisation, this feline has found favour in the eyes of royalty so much that even the cats were mummified and buried in separate tombs in ancient Egypt. Though the Pharaohs had cheetah as pets, this particular member of the Feline community was more honoured than the rest of them. Hieroglyphics tell us this with certainty and this fact continues to remain the same even today.
The pet and its uses
To be compared to a cat implies certain qualities like stealth coupled with mischievousness, and an in veritable ability to look out for themselves. The tomcat is known for its selfishness as well. He goes out and come in as and when he pleases and answers to no one but his own self. The advantage of owning a cat is that he is very clean and does not shed his fur all over the house like a dog. The dog on the other hand is a happily dirty animal. This cat found its proper place on board trade ships by sailors from ancient times as a good luck charm against inclement weather and also to keep the rats in check. This can be seen from drawings made by Phoenician sailors on the cave walls of their dwellings. History has it, that orange and white striped tomcats were preferred for the journey.
Training this self-contained feline
At times, this feline with its many used becomes an irritation or a source of big disappointment.
