| elloIm Orlando EllisWhen my son was 6 he had a bout of Angular Chelitis also known as "Perleche" My wife and I thought nothing of it and it seemed to clear up after a few days all by itself. When Brad turned 14 he got it again. This time it stayed with him for over 3 years. These painful ulcers caused him embarrassment and made social interaction uncomfortable for him. Nothing the doctors prescribed seemed to work. It was a very angry skin infection that persisted despite the many different topical creams we were prescribed. It was painful and the lesions often grew in size and area. The corners of his lips turned a whitish hue. Opening his mouth simply to eat often cracked the seals painfully opening the splits at either side of his lips.Over time it affected his personality I watched my son change in personality from happy and outgoing to withdrawn and quiet. After a year of this I was really starting to get anxious for my son. He was and is a really good kid, but the barbs and jabs he got at school obviously took a toll. He was called aids boy, syphillus face and leper boy. When I heard about this, which he told me only after I pressed him why he was so angry lately. I got angry too! We decided to shop around for second opinions and quit our family doctor. I learned about the different types of topical treatments available for Angular Chelitis and began to really research the condition myself. Not surprisingly, the other general practitioners we approached had the same opinions on Brad's condition and the same offerings. 1% hydro cortisone cream is the main way doctors approach Angular Chelitis. It was my opinion at that time, that they may as well have prescribed olive oil. It would have given us the same results. NOTHING! The stuff was useless. It wasn't cheap either and different manufacturers make different re branded "versions" of it. We tried that useless stuff on 7 different occasions with 7 different tubes of the greasy white cream. It proved to have absolutely no medicinal power at all. We were stuck, I was getting more stressed than Brad about it. I recall him feeling relieved I was trying so hard to help resolve this for him. He tried to smile, but the corners of his lips cracked and split so he stopped. This was an ongoing source of frustration and stress for our family, but nothing worked. We let it go for another few years and things went back to the status quo. Angular Chelitis is not dangerous. It is not a contagious infection either. It is however painful for the sufferer and visually a handicap. It is not like an infection on another part of the body that can be tolerated but at least hidden by clothes, nobody can see it in public on a daily basis. Angular Chelitis however is right on the face. When it flairs in full bloom, the lips become chapped and the corners of the mouth ulcerate painfully, showing white crusty areas of redness around the corners of the lips.Suddenly, 3 long years later, I had an inspiration One day when Brad was 17 I was at our local library, when spontaneously, I decided to look up Angular Chelitis in the health encyclopedia I had found. I started to do some research and formulate my own conclusions about dealing with fungal infections. After 20 minutes I read a sentence that was mind blowing. "Fungal bacteria die quickly in dry environments" I couldn't believe it. The answer was always sitting there right under our nose! That evening I formulated a treatment for Brad using a few household items that any home in America will have laying around. Based on the research I did at the library, I formulated a plan to kill the bacteria responsible for the infection in the first place.Within one hour the lesions that were particularly swollen that day on the corners of Brads lips began to get smaller and dry out. Within 2 hours Brad reported no pain and could not feel the split skin with his tongue on the inside of his lips that he... |
